Friday Fixation: BabyBug

I grew up with Cricket Magazine, as I am sure some of you all did. Cricket Magazine and Highlights Magazine were two magazines that I credit with flaming my love for writing. I actually thought I was going to be a writer as a kid and sent a short story I wrote to a publisher. I was 8 years old. I sent the handwritten story to the address in the back of my Ramona book. They sent me a letter thanking me for my submission (and rejecting it - so politely) along with a box of free books and a recommendation to send the story on to Highlights Magazine.

My parents didn't even know I sent the story until I got the rejection letter.

Anyways, that's not the point. The point is - those magazines were awesome. And I really want to get Lucy loving to read and write just like her mommy and daddy. So when I discovered Cricket made a magazine for babies, I had to get it.

We are two months in and I love BabyBug! When I signed up the digital issue came for free with the print issue so we get both. The stories and little rhymes are great and the book/magazine is stronger than  a paper back - but not really a board book.

I couldn't get a great picture of Lucy enjoying her book - because she moves too fast for my shutter!

If you are looking for a gift for a young one this holiday season that will continue through the year, I really recommend Babybug or any of the other Cricket brand magazines. Ranger Rick is always great too - and Highlights, like I mentioned earlier. I'm interested in checking out the Highlights Magazine for babies called Hello. It sounds interesting too.
