There are so many things that make books great presents. You can find a good one for everyone on your list - they don't take up a lot of space - and they are fun to pass on when you are done with them.
I think every year I find one or two books that I think are just perfect for someone. Here are so of my favorite books I've found this year. Some are for the kids and some for the grown-ups. Maybe even one or two that are on my wishlist.
A Hundred Billion Trillion Stars: My kids love numbers. We say "I love you" "I love you two" "I love you 58" "I love you Googolplex" so a book that talks specifically about REALLY big numbers are interesting to them. They learn and get some enjoyment out of it. Which is a win-win. We bought it as soon as it came out.
This is How We Do It: One Day in the Lives of Seven Kids from Around the World: This is on our library list - so I can't tell you its amazing quiet yet - but it sure seems like it. Forgive the long title and dive in and show your kiddos how people live differently all over the world.
Her Right Foot: I'm so disappointed in myself on how far behind I am on this. Dave Eggers is a writer that both Jonny and I love - and I'm just finding out now he has kid books. Her Right Foot is his latest - but Lucille will be getting This Bridge Will Not Be Gray.
A Wrinkle in Time: While this isn't a new book by any means, there is a movie coming out which means more
Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth: While I haven't actually gotten my hands on this book yet - it seems similar to A Hundred Billion Trillion Stars. Books that can teach our kids and show them what a big wonderful thing they are part of, always make the top of my list. And Oliver Jeffers is amazing.
Lady Killers: Deadly Women Throughout History: This is the type of book that I see in the store and I try to find a person who I can get it for. It just sounds so interesting. I mean, can you even name one female serial killer? I can't. But this book has a few.
A Die Hard Christmas: The Illustrated Holiday Classic: This is my husband's favorite Christmas movie - and I'm sure that he isn't the only one. So when I saw this I had to add it to my list.
Atlas Obscura: An Explorer's Guide to the World's Hidden Wonders: This is a book version of one of my favorite websites. If you've got an explorer on your list this book is definitely worth checking out.
I'm Just No Good at Rhyming: And other Nonsense for Mischievous Kids and Immature Grown-ups: I love books that both grown up and kids can enjoy - like this one. It's a great one for a fun mom or dad you know to share with their kiddos.
The Dry: This was one of my favorite books I read this year. If you've got a fiction book junkie on your list - especially one that enjoys a good psychological thriller - try this book. I think it isn't so mainstream that they'll have read it already (like Into the Water perhaps) but it is really, really good.
I'm also all for subscriptions for gifts - like Bookroo or Book of the Month Club. Bookroo has a great Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal - with code BFHONEYBEE you can get 25% off any multi-month subscription (3,6, or 12 months) One redemption per family. Valid for new customers only. Existing customers may use for the purchase of one gift subscription. Valid 11/24 - midnight PST 11/27.
