Family Summer Reading: 2021

Summer reading for me isn't always the fluffy and light books that often get recommended. One of my favorite summer reads ever was Valley of the Dolls - so much so, that thinking about this book makes me think of lounging poolside in Miami.

I'm hoping to make this summer a summer of reading again. With the kids older and reading on their own, it's easier to do. Below is a list of some of the books I've recently read or I'm hoping to read this summer and some of the books the kids are planning on reading too.

Grown-up Books:

The Babysitter: My Summers With a Serial Killer

American Spy

Where the Crawdads Sing (If you haven't read this yet - now is the time! I listened to it on audio and loved it.)

Oona Out of Order

Malibu Rising

The Lost Apothecary

The Midnight Library

The Desolations of Devil's Acre (I'm obsessed with this series.)

Middle Grade and Elementary Chapter Books:

Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot Series (good for Dog Man fans, early readers)

Pippi Longstocking (then watch the movie!)

The Puppy Place Series (the new one Lily came out in May)

Girl's Best Friend (first in the Maggie Brooklyn Mystery Series)

Wish

The World Ends in April

Beyond the Bright Sea

The Earth Before Us Series

What are you reading this summer? I'm always looking for more ideas.

  2. Both my husband and I read Where the Crawdads Sing and enjoyed it! I have The Midnight Library on hold at my library; it may be a few months before it becomes available.

Yesterday I started Sue Monk Kidd's The Book of Longings. Already on page 50! :)

    1. I love Sue Monk Kidd. I read The Invention of Wings last year and loved it. I'll have to add The Book of Longings to my list too!
