Summer Reading List: Kindergartener Edition

I cannot believe I have a Kindergartener. She's going to the Elementary School that I went to and the whole experience is just surreal at this point. I was a big reader as a kid (and like to think I still am now) and Summer Reading Lists were my favorite thing.

So I made myself one this year - and decided to make Lucille one as well. Lucille isn't really reading yet - so most of these I'll be reading to her.

Classic (long)
Anne of Green Gables - While this is a graphic novel - it still seems to be a great introduction to the Green Gables world. I enjoy reading it with her because it was always one of my favorites too. Can't wait till we can watch the PBS specials together.

Classic (short)
The Tale of Peter Rabbit - Beatrix Potter was a favorite of mine when I was about Lucille's age. I think I read these books all around England when I was about 6 on a vacation with my family. We read these stories when she was smaller but it's been a while and I'd like to get back to them.

Poetry
Beastly Verse - I'm looking to read more poetry books with Lucille and this with the beautiful illustrations seemed worth the bookshelf investment.

Phonics
Peppa Pig Phonics Boxed Set - I'd say Lucille can "read" book one and book two already. But she may just have them memorized. Gus is so good at rhyming to figure out what word comes next that it almost sounds like he can read them too. But they both LOVE Peppa so these are the perfect intro to phonics books.

Travel
This is Greece - Since this is our big summer vacation - I had to get a book that talks a little about Greece and the history. It's really meant for older kids - but I like asking Lucille (and Gus) to pick out a picture or two that they find interesting and then I read that section.

Starting Kindergarten
Kindergarten, Here I Come! - While Lucille has been in preschool since she was 2.5 - this is going to be all new kids, a new teacher, a new school... well, you get the picture. So I thought a good Kindergarten book would be helpful. We will probably reread Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus a few times too.

Anyone else have a soon-to-be Kindergartener? What are they reading over the Summer? I'd love to hear!
