Things to Do: September 2017

September is a big month is Sacramento. All the farm-to-fork activities, Chalk it up Festival, Gold Rush Days... just to name a few. Well if you are looking for the slightly less crowded options... I've got some ideas for you. Here's what else is happening in the area.

Sept 2: Free Fishing Day! - Ever wanted to take your kids fishing but don't want to buy a license for something that they might only spend 2 minutes doing? Take advantage of  this free fishing day from California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Sept 3: Free Movie Night at the Drive-in - They've got some great family friendly free movies playing this evening at the Sacramento Drive-in. Opens at 5pm and double features start at 8pm.

Sept 8: Movie in the Park, Moana - We haven't seen this yet - and I think maybe getting to walk to go to Arden Park to watch it on a blanket - where it's no biggie if the kids fall asleep is just the perfect opportunity. We haven't been to a movie in the park yet - but it's on the radar.

Sept 8: Bubblemania! - Head over to the library at McKinley park from 3:30p to 4:30p if your kids love bubbles. This bubble mania will feature all kinds of cool things done with bubbles.

Sept 9: Train Day at Maple Rock Gardens - Trains, live steam engines, BBQ and live music - all at Maple Rock Gardens in Penryn. If you're willing to make the drive and you've got a train loving kiddo like we do - this sounds like it's worth checking out. It's $10.50 a person.

Sept 16: ScholarShare Children's Book Festival - This fun event features local area children book authors and all the fun of Fairytale town. Plus, it is free thanks to SholarShare (an amazing way to save for your kid's collage education.)

Sept 23: Buccaneer Ball - A fun mother/son dance at the Sacramento Children's Museum. Gus loves dancing and I think we would have a great time. I just have to find some pirate costumes first... $20 for members and $30 for non members.
