Things to Do: August 2017

Feels like Summer has come and gone. Except for the heat. That is still here. If you're looking for things to do in August - I've got some good recommendations below.

August 4: Screen on the Green, The Lego Batman Movie - If I haven't already said it - Gus has been superhero obsessed lately. He LOVES Batman. Of course, he has never actually watched a Batman movie and when I asked him what a Super Hero does - he was a little confused. But maybe this movie will straighten him out. Or not. Playing at Glenn Hall Park in River Park.

August 5: Astronomy and Stargazing - I can't wait until my kids are a little older and not such a disaster after 8 pm because I think they would love to look at the stars. This is up at Placer Nature Center in Auburn. You have to register in advance.

August 13: Peach Festival - This fun festival is happening at the Carmichael Farmer's Market - which the kids already love going to. And they love peaches. So this sounds like a win-win. Bound to be crowded so get there early.

August 9: Nevada County Fair - Nothing says summer like a county fair. I've heard amazing things about this one too. I'm hoping to get to check it out with the kids this year. It runs August 9-13.

August 12: Star Gazing Party - The maximum Perseid activity is expected on Aug 12 - and you can head out to Gibbons Ranch to watch. You can even camp if you'd like. Starts at 8 pm so I am thinking the kids would have to already be in their pajamas.

August 19: Music in the Park, Roni & the Flight Band - Live music at Arden Park - and this band is a crowd pleaser - as they play a wide range of types of music. Gus just LOVES listening to music and I really wish I took him to more places where he could enjoy live music.

August 26: Tales & Ales Brewfest Fundraiser - There is something magical about getting to have a beer while the kids enjoy the crooked mile. I don't know what it is - but I sign up and any chance I get. If you are a member - you get $5 off each ticket and your kids are free.

August 26: Soil Born Farms - Saturday at the Farm - This happens every Saturday until November at Soil Born Farms. A great urban farm to check out with the whole family. Music, crafts and of course - locally grown fruits and veggies.

August 27: Summer Science Blast! - At the Explorit Science Center in Davis - this is a day of family fun activities including hands on activities, a raptor show, and food. I've been meaning to check this place out and this might be a good opportunity.

Something missing that you're excited about in August? Share it in the comments I'd love to know about it!
