Lucille's Book Reviews: Mommies Do Best / Daddies Do Best and more.

We get SO many books from the library and I feel like I should share with you all the gems and no so gem-like books that we find. And what better way to rate a book than straight from the mouth of a almost-four year old.

So here are some books we just took back - and what Lucille had to say about them.

What Mommies Do Best / What Daddies Do Best

Laura Numeroff is the author, probably best known for the "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie..." books. This book is a total gem. I mean, it's really two books in one.

Me: Did you like this book?
Lucille: Yeah.
Me: What did you like about it?
Lucille: I just loved it. It's two books. Daddies and mommies. They are almost the same. On the bike ones the mom rides the bike with the baby and the dad doesn't he just walks after him.

Xo, Ox: A Love Story

This is one I picked and I wasn't sure she would like (or understand) as much as me. Since I don't know that she understands the idea of "love letters" yet. But low, and behold...

Me: Did you like this book?
Lucille: Yeah.
Me: What is it about?
Lucille: In this book, the Ox just kept writing letters to the Gazelle and Gazelle writes a letter to the Ox. It has a happy ending.

Flood

With all the rain and flooding in California lately, this book seemed like a good one to read even though it is probably better for kids a little bit older than Lucille.

Me: Did you like this book?
Lucille: Yeah.
Me: Why did you like it?
Lucille: There is a little girl in it. Well, she's like a big kid.
Me: What is a flood?
Lucille: A flood is when there comes lots of water and it goes high.

Ten in the Den

This is a Lucille pick. When she picks books herself she just grabs anything off the shelf and hardly even looks at it. So it's a pretty random selection. But she likes the song "Ten in the bed" and this is a spin-off to that - so its a win-win.

Me: Did you like this book?
Lucille: Yeah.
Me: What did you like about it?
Lucille: I just love when the little mouse says "roll over, roll over."

Make Way for Ducklings

A classic book that I'm actually kind of sad we didn't already own. It's on Lucille's Amazon wishlist now.

Me: Did you like this book?
Lucille: Yeah.
Me: What did you like about it?
Lucille: Can I just tell you what it is about? Mother and Mr. Duck fly to find a good place to hatch ducklings. Everytime Mr. Duckling found a spot with water, Mrs. Duckling would say "no."

So a few notes on these book reviews - I don't know if Lucille would every say she didn't like a book. "Yeah" might always be her response. Second, she paid a lot more attention to details than I thought. We only read each book a few (2 or 3) times.

So that's her first round of reviews - and I think all of these were a success. She didn't want to take any back. Stay tuned for more book reviews.
