Broadway for babes.

I'm a Broadway fanatic. It's been like that since I can remember. I had Sound of Music memorized by the time I was 8 and Phantom of Opera memorized by 10. My obsession continued into Wicked and then recently, of course, Hamilton.

Well recently, when Gus was having one of his meltdowns, where he just wants me to hold him while he cries and screams, I starting singing this melody:

Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you, oh.
Don't you know Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And we want you to sleep well tonight.
Let the world turn without you tonight.
If we try, we'll get by, so forget all about us tonight.

Sleep and I shall soothe you, calm you, and anoint you.
Myrrh for your hot forehead, oh.
Then you'll feel
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And it's cool, and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet.
Close your eyes, close your eyes
And relax, think of nothing tonight.

He instantly stopped crying and just relaxed. He loved it. Since then, every time he is sad or hurt he asks me to sing him this which he calls "The hurt song". The rest of us musical lovers know this song as "Everything's Alright" from Jesus Christ Superstar. I obviously don't sing the Judas and Jesus parts of the song... just the relaxing part. But this has always been one of my favorite musical songs.

It got me thinking about other musical songs that might be nice (and easy) to sing to the kids - because lord knows, I get tired or "Twinkle, Twinkle".

Here are a few other that I'm thinking of adding to my repertoire:

Music of the Night
There is a Castle on a cloud (again, only the first bit.)
Goodnight, My Someone
Stay Awake

Any musical fans have any other suggestions of songs? I'd love to hear some.
