Sacramento in December

Just like that - it's December and we are closing out 2016. Here are some local events to help you enjoy the last month of 2016.

December 3 - 33rd Annual Fair Oaks Christmas in the Village: A fun holiday event to kick-off December in Fair Oaks Village. Music, shopping, food, a parade, Santa... what else would you want? Seems like a fun afternoon event (as long as the weather is ok!)

December 8 - Winter Wonderland at Fairytale Town: I'm not so sure about checking this out - because to be honest - Halloween at Fairytale Town was a little too crazy for me. But maybe on a Thursday night, it wouldn't be so bad.

December 9 - Family Friday Movie Night - Lodi: The movie is Elf - this time around and if you are in or near Lodi - this would be totally worth checking out.

December 10 - A Simple Emigrant Christmas: This event at Sutter's Fort celebrates traditions from across the globe. Crafts, food, music... lots of hands-on activities. Would be a fun event for kids of all ages.

December 10 - Holiday Magic at the Zoo: This is such a fun event. I love getting to see the animals find their special treats. It means some of the harder to see animals are out too. Lucille has her ballet recital this day so I don't know if we'll have time to do this first. But I hope so.

December 11 - Santa Train at Hagan Park: Take a train ride, visit Santa, and get some hot cocoa and cookies. We haven't been on this little train yet - and I'm thinking this might be a good day to take the kiddos to check it out.

December 14 - Nevada City Victorian Christmas: You can check out this amazing Christmas celebration on Sundays (Dec 4, 11 & 18) or Wednesdays (Dec 14 & 21). They seem to know how to do it right - as Nevada City was recognized by Fodor's Travel as a "Town with a Huge Christmas Celebration."

December 22 - A Seussified Christmas Carol: At Sutter Street Theatre in Folsom, this performance of the Christmas Carol has been "Seussified". Sounds like a great play for the family if you're looking for something indoors to keep everyone entertained. They have earlier (and later) dates as well - so check the link!

All Month - Global Winter Wonderland: This wasn't something I was dying to do last year - but we went with another family and it was actually really fun. The kids loved the lights and I think that they'll enjoy it again this year. It really is an amazing display of lights.

All Month - Downtown Ice Skating Rink: This will be open all month long - and is well worth checking out. If you haven't seen the new Golden 1 Center, be sure to check it out while you're down there.

All Month - Holiday Lights: Don't forget to check out the Christmas lights in some of the neighborhoods that are known for going all out - like the Fabulous 40's in East Sac. The house on Fair Oaks that hosts Rosie's Toy Drive and Land Park drive between Broadway and the park. You can see what SacBee recommended last year here.

All Month - The Magic of Christmas at the Museum of Wonder & Delight: I have never heard of this museum before (probably because I don't make it out to Folsom much) but it sounds amazing. And at Christmas time they have an amazing display of figures and toys for the holiday season. I would love to take Lucille - but I'd be afraid Gus might break something. Kids under 5 are free.

It's a busy month as it is, so I'm going short on the list this month. Am I missing any Sacramento / Northern California December events you're going to? I'd love to hear in the comments!
