July in Sacramento

I hope you got out a little bit in June while the weather wasn't actually too hot. I can't believe it is July. We have 2 family birthdays this month - my husband on the 6th and little Gus-Gus turns 2 on the 29th! Crazy how time flies.

I did a round up of things to do in June - and decided to keep that monthly round up going for this month too. So- here are things to do in July so you can get the most out of your hometown!

July 2-4: Folsom Pro Rodeo - Rodeos can be fun places to take kids - especially kids interested in farm animals. I haven't been to the Folsom one before - but it seems worth checking out - especially if you are looking for something to do on the 4th in that area.

July 4: Arden Park 4th of July Bike Parade - Maybe I am partial because I grew up doing this Parade - but we LOVE this event for 4th of July. It starts at 10am so you can do the parade and play in the park all before nap time. Worth checking out if it is near you.

July 7: Twilight Thursday @ the Zoo - If you missed the 3 in June - you still have 4 in July to go to. This first one features music by Dinorah and Crosswinds a rock group with a Latin flare. They have a kid zone this year too.

July 8-24: The California State Fair - There is always a lot to do and explore at the State Fair and for the parents who don't want to eat fried Fair food - here is my special tip: Go eat in the wine & beer garden (near the buildings with the county exhibits.) They have fruit and cheese plates which my kid devour and of course near by beer and wine for the grown ups - and it's in the shade.

July 9: Ginger Elizabeth Ice Cream Social - If you haven't been to Ginger Elizabeth's in midtown yet - you don't know what you are missing. This ice cream social might be the best time for you to go check her goodies out too! I mean Roasted Strawberry Ice Cream??? Yes, please.

July 12: Taco Fusion Tuesdays - Off the Grid (the same group that does the Sunday brunch time event in West Sacramento) is going to be doing a Taco Tuesday every Tuesday at the Crocker Art Museum starting on July 12. Another fun thing worth checking out!

July 12 and July 13: Midsummer's Evening at the Museum - This is a member's only event at the California State Railroad Museum but it is a chance to enjoy the museum after hours and they will have hand car rides, face painting and loads of other kid activities. So if you're a member and your kid loves "choo-choos" as much as mine - it's a must do!

July 14: Twilight Thursday @ the Zoo - Music from the Rockabilly band The Nickel slots

July 14: Gather Oak Park - If you missed out on Gather last month - please put this on your to-do list for July. Get there early to avoid the lines for beer and food - enjoy the kids zone and live music.  I actually skipped the alcohol last month and just enjoyed Burly Beverages instead. Delish.

July 15: Movie in the Park - This is the Cars Movie in the park night at the Fair Oaks Village - where kids are encouraged to build and bring their own box "Cars" to sit in and enjoy the show. Sounds like a lot of fun if your littles can hang that late.

July 16: Yolo Basin Foundation Bat Walks - Be sure to check the schedules because these sell out - but there was still room on this one and a few other in July when I wrote this. Probably better for older kids (especially those interested in Bats) because its starts with a 45 min indoor presentation.

July 21: Twilight Thursday @ the Zoo - Music from Hans! and the Hot Mess (Soulful R&B)

July 23: Carmichael Concerts in the Park - With live music from an interesting band called Todd Morgan and the Emblems - this sounds like it might be worth checking out. They have other music nights in July too - so check out the full schedule.

July 24: Off the Grid {Sacramento} - This event is actually EVERY Sunday - so it also happens in July on the 3rd, 10th, 17th and 31st. Food trucks, kids activities, music and shade. Check it out - and enjoy some time outside. It runs from 11am to 4pm.

July 28: Twilight Thursday @ the Zoo - Music from Big Band Peter Petty and the Double P Review

July 28-31: Amador County Fair - If you missed the excitement of the State Fair earlier this month, just love fairs or would prefer a small crowd - the Amador County Fair might be the thing for you this month. A fun fair up in wine country? Sounds worth a try, right?

All July: Funderland Summer Sales - $10 Tuesdays - Unlimited rides wristbands are only $10 on Tuesdays, on Wednesday you can get 2 unlimited ride wristbands for $25 or 3 for $30 and on Thursdays you can purchase a family pack of tickets and get a free 10 pack of tickets.
